Program A: Women’s Literacy, Work & Life Skills and Vocational Programs

Women’s Literacy Program:  There are 3 Bahasa Indonesia literacy classes daily, with a maximum of 20 students per class.  The majority of students will continue to work in menial jobs that can include gardening, housekeeping, hard laboring and collective farming, whilst others are effectively employed by family arrangement for no income at all.  There are morning, afternoon and evening times to allow students to fulfill their family and work commitments, as well as learn.
At enrolment students are tested and graded as to their level.  Literacy students are then placed in the class group suitable to their level and availability for a 3 month literacy course.  Examinations are held at the end of each 3 month course so that individual progress can be assessed. The course is then repeatable for those whose level is inadequate.  It is expected that students from the beginning phase could take 6 to 12 months to reach a usable literacy level; therefore students must be able to take multiple 3 month courses.
Those that pass the literacy test either at enrolment, or after following the R.O.L.E. Program, will then have the opportunity to participate in R.O.L.E.’s Work and Life Skills Program.  Furthermore, students from poor backgrounds that show high literacy level (for example, self taught) and adeptness can be offered a position in R.O.L.E.’s Vocational Skills Program directly.  They will still learn elements of the Work and Life Skills Program, but are more able to be fast tracked to full employment if they are vocationally trained immediately.

Work and Life Skills Program:  This course is designed to give students a broad understanding of employer expectations, business concepts, self grooming and confidence.  They shall gain the tools needed to improve their job potential, but also their daily lives.  Components of the course include:

  • Basic mathematics
  • IT skills
  • Conversational English
  • Basic work ethics
  • Health, wellness and nutrition education
  • Character and confidence building
  • Presentation and grooming
  • Office and communication skills
  • Small Business Management

The direct result of this course is women who are prepared for permanent job placements.  All students will have the opportunity to repeat any programs they have been unable to complete adequately, to ensure they are properly trained for future employment.

Vocational Skills Programs:  The Vocational Skills Programs are targeted at women primarily and will educate, re-skill and teach employer expectations through to modern business thinking.  Our students will gain practical experience in the respective Eco Vocational Park areas, and will be a ready asset to any company or team.  R.O.L.E. is teaching programs in the following fields at present:

  • Restaurant Skills

Sponsored by well respected Balinese style restaurant, Bumbu Bali, students are given hands on training in preparation and service at the R.O.L.E. Eco Vocational Park Warung.  The skills are divided into 2 main areas:

  • Food preparation and cooking assistance
  • Restaurant serving, cashier, back office, stock and ordering
  • Spa Skills

Sponsored by the internationally recognized Bali International Spa Academy (BISA), students are taught both theory and practical work at the R.O.L.E. Eco Vocational Park Training Spa.  Students taking this 3 month course must pass a modified BISA accreditation that will give them a certified qualification in specific areas of spa therapy.

  • Back Office Skills

Taught in the R.O.L.E. Eco Vocational Park office and computer areas under the guidance of senior administrators, the back office skills course is designed to develop the skills essential to secretary and book keeping jobs.  Students are given the opportunity to develop further their interpersonal, communication, computer and financial skills to prepare them for back of office work.

Future Vocational Programs:  The R.O.L.E. Foundation is continually capacity building and planning for future vocational skills courses to be based at the Eco Vocational Park.  Some of the planned courses include

  • Housekeeping Skills
  • Gardening and Permaculture Skills
  • Salon, Manicure and Pedicure Skills
  • Tour Guiding and Presentation Skills
