ROLE Foundation has built an Eco-Learning Center in Sawangan, Nusa Dua on the island of Bali.The property is 15,500 square meters and is positioned on a hillside overlooking Nusa Dua and the Indian Ocean is approximately 20 minutes from Bali’s International Airport. The Eco-Learning Center consists of 17 learning stations and as well as a teaching facility where Basic Work and Life Skill students taking morning and afternoon classes.

Recycling – Reducing waste is the best way to help the environment. Reuse things instead of throwing them away. New products can be made from the materials made from old ones. Many items can be recycled – paper bags, milk cartons, glass bottles, aluminum cans. Buy products that contain recycled materials.
Natural Dyes and Organic Cotton - Using natural dyes from plants instead of chemicals helps the environment. Organic cotton decreases the use of toxic fertilizers and overuse of water resources. Fossil fuels are decreased by not producing synthetic materials. Producing organic dyes and cotton creates social business.
Natural Medicines – Support and strengthen the immune system without lasting chemical effects on the body. Chemically based medicines mask the symptoms and natural medicine works with the body to treat the disease.
Composting – Natural fertilizer for the garden. Reduce waste by composting organic products such as plants and vegetables. Compost is good for the soil and plants and reduces landfill and water use.
Seedling – A seed needs soil and water to develop roots and then a stem. They are grown in a small container and when it is strong enough it can be transplanted into their permanent home in the forest or garden. Grow into a tree to reduce global warming, or fruit tree for food.
Herbs/Jamu – Herbs improve your health because of their vitamin and mineral content. They are also an antioxidant which cleanses the body. Jamu is a traditional Indonesian medicine made from roots, leaves, bark and fruits. The Jamu industry creates work.
Free Range Ducks – Ducks are allowed to move freely in the outdoors and are fed natural foods. The eggs and meat are healthy and flavourful.
Native Fruits – Are local to the environment and be grown organically in the home garden. They are cheaper than imported varieties. Used for food or for a cash crop.
Snail Farming – Create micro business for unskilled and low income families. A compact, inexpensive source of protein and nutrition for needy families.
Weaving – Create social business for needy families and communities. Using natural fibres cuts down on the use of synthetics.
Spa – Unskilled workers can learn new skills. Provides training or business opportunity for increased income.

Permaculture – Surround your living and working area with plants that are useful for food (organic veggies, herbs, spices, and native fruits), lotions and potions (natural medicines), shade. Cut massive fossil fuel costs of the growing, preparation, packaging and transport of foods.
Reforestation – Give the animals somewhere to live by leaving National Park and Forestry Reserves alone. Make the world a cooler place with shade provided from trees (Global Warming). Create Oxygen.
Marine Education, Assistance and Awareness – Combat over fishing by promoting Eco Friendly Ocean Farming and the creation of Marine Protected Areas. All rubbish, chemicals and shipping materials will eventually find their way into the oceans if these toxic materials are not dealt with properly.
Renewable Energy – Energy so children can study at night, medicines can be kept cool, food can be kept fresh. Pollution from energy creation and transportation is minimal. It does not increase Global Warming.
Water Harvesting – Harvest water in the dry season and store. Communities and families can grow protein and have reliable drinking water all year round. Water is a precious resource.
